SIP’s Build Bedford University Campus

As part of a multi million pound redevelopment programme at the University of Bedfordhire in Luton, K-Panels have been appointed to install sips panels to Phase 2a, Bedford university Park square.

This impressive 6 storey development adjoins an existing site, and when completed will form part of the Bedford University Campus.

The design is based upon a SIP’s wall cladding system to a concrete frame which will be covered using Sorba rain screen systems. The TEK panel was selected due to it’s energy efficient build properties and speed of installation.

Our build programme for this job is estimated to be just 6 weeks.

Despite a number of interesting challenges presented by using the Kingspan TEK SIP’s panel in a cladding to concrete frame application, the build is currently on programme and the SIP’s element of work is expected to finish by late June.

Our team are currently on site working alongside the Kier Group to ensure succsessful delivery is achived.

All change in 2012!

As we wave goodbye to 2011 and welcome the prospect of a new year, the team at K-Panels are proud to announce some key changes to our business model, which we are confident will offer significant improvement in our already outstanding services.

Firstly, there is of course our new website which, we hope you will enjoy using. Our traditional one page site has been split into bespoke areas for those planning a self build project, and for those who design or specify SIP’s professionally.

We hope that this new format will make our site more user friendly, as well as being a place where our clients can exchange ideas and bring themselves up to date with all of the latest industry developments, however, the new format is a result of feedback and research from our most important contributers, namely, our clients. So please do leave feedback about your experience of our site so we can continually improve and develop our offering to the world wide web!

The next big change you may notice is to our project management systems. As the ongoing development of our web based live project management tool continues, each SIP’s build we undertake now has the option of an online portal to manage key milestones and developments. This gives our clients the option of creating a digital diary of their project which they can choose to share (or not!) with as many users as they wish, keeping everyone involved up to date on the latest build activity.

Finally, this brings us to the final notable development of the year, the Kingspan TEK multi-million pound UK manufacturing plant is now fully operational, with the production of TEK panel moving from Germany to Selby in the North of England. The key benefits of UK manufacture are of course considerable savings to be made on transport, as well as providing a faster and more efficient manufacturing service.

However, perhaps what is more exciting for our clients is that we are now able to open up our factory for visits, allowing those who wish to learn more about SIP’s technology to observe first hand the state of the art production process involved in the manufacture of Kingspan TEK Panels.

With the above in mind, we feel there has never been a better time to start planning your SIP’s project, and as always the team at K-Panels will be happy to offer guidance and expertise whatever your project plan may be!

So, tweet us, e-mail us, feedback us, find us on linked-in, or perhaps if your so prefer..give us a good old fashioned telephone call and find out how SIP’s can simplify your next project.

An Interesting Use Of Budget

This amazing building, The Jellyfish Theatre, was built for only £17,000 and won the Architects Journal Small Project Awards..

Love it or loathe it no one can deny that a budget of £17,000 wouldn’t get you very far in these costly times, so some recognition must be given to the Architects involved for designing what must be the most cost effective structure we at K-Panels have seen.

It would be interesting to know how this building performs against sustainability requirements, and I’m sure the design would devide opinions just as all great works do, but here at K-Panels we always love something a bit different which showcases the versatality of Timber in construction.
